final (pun intended) entry!

Dear Professor,

This was a great class for me in many different ways. First and formeost, it was a class which i looked forward to always and enjoyed. Secondly, it was a class which I had learned a lot in, without cramming before exams, but rather through a paced learning throughout the semester due to the "hand on" in-class exersices, as well as the case graders for homwwork. The text book was not so helpful for me as much as the in class exrecies with the Professor! Also, i felt that the journel entries were a great way to recap what i had learnt or did not understand. I especially appreciated the personilzed emails.

Furthermore, it was my the first time learning excel, and since learning it in class, i started to use for my own personel usage, mostly to create spread sheets to review gemara, which up intil now i did not have an efficiant to create these spreadsheets.

thanks for as great semester,

Natan

old word1&2 assignment

Sorry professor, i forgot to write a journal entry for the first assigments when i did them (i wasn't so familiar with how to use the blog then--i never used a blog before in my life before MIS class!).
The new word was very hard for me to adapt to because i am still using the old one on my computer, as opposed to excell which i never used before, so it was very easy to learn it from the new one (i think this was reflected on the assesments).
Anyways, in the first assigment i dont remeber learning anyrthing new, but in the second one the autocomplete function for the date was very helpful. Also, the "find and replace function is a hepful tool when you have to change the same word many times (like when you mispell a name throughout an entire essay...!).
take care,
~Natan

power point #2

Hi again,

Something went wrong when i tried to re-sumbit the file and it kept on re-submbiting the original file for some reason until it didn't accept any more submissions, and the mistakes were extremly minor (to change a font and a few words).
Anyways i got more familiar with power point, especially with the flowchart and all the other chart options which i never knew about. Also, a very practical and important function of PP is the sub bullets (by simply pressing the tab button.

take care,
~Natan

excel 6

Hi,

I thought this exercise was very helpful in terms of covering many different aspects of excel besides the formulas of course. The ones that were specifically helpful for me was the creation of the number series by inserting a small sample and then stretching it down to other cells. Also, i got more familiar with the different type of number styles and how to manipulate the amount of decimal places. However, I couldn't figure out what to do in question 14 when they asked me to apply the percent style to cells 16 and 17, did they mean the whole entire cells across? Well, that's what it wasn't right... but for the most part i was very comfortable.

take care,
~Natan

Power point one

Hi,

This was my very first time using power point and thank g-d it went very well!
I learnt mainly how to use the sub-bullet function and to insert new pages. By the way, my personnel preference was to go to the "outline" view in order to change around the order of the bullet points, as you had demonstrated in class...

excell case 5

Thank g-d i have finally got this one right after redoing it from scratch!! I learnt how to insert new rows by clicking on the row I want to duplicate, and only then inserting the row. Also, I learnt about creating a chart and moving the chart to a new sheet without simply copying and pasting it.
Lastly, I learnt some basic chart functions, including labeling the chart, removing the legend and labeling the horizontal axis. thanks for the extra help after class!

excell cases 2&3

Case 2:
I learnt many of the helpful functions in a cell sheet, including title and headings, different number formats (accounting, comma style format etc.) which really bring the chart to life.

Case 3: in this case I got to become familiar with the formula and SUM functions, as well as copying those formulas to other cells.

ass 4 excel

hello Professor!

This H.W I really learnt how to use the "absolute" reference function by myself outside class, which was a really great feeling. In the beginning however,I didn't figure out how to reference it correctly so I tried to reference each one individually which obviously didn't work, but I eventually figured out how to reference it properly! I am sure it will come in handy...

Excel ass.1

Hi Professor,
This was my very first time using excel, besides from the time we spent on it during class time. I am getting very comfortable with the computations and writing the formulas. However, I couldn't figure out exactly how to copy all the information from the chart onto the excel worksheet, instead of inserting every piece of information individually...

ass. 1

Hi,

In the first assignment I learnt to add texts to an already existing chart. By simply clicking inside the cell with the mouse, you can add more text to the cell, which grows automatically in proportion to the amount of text I added in.

a little about myself...

My full name is Natan Peretz Friedman. I am named Natan after my grandfather’s father, and Peretz after Grandmothers father, both from my father’s side. Peretz, who emigrated from Poland, worked as CPA, while Natan who emigrated from Lithuania worked as watch smith. Both of them stayed steadfast in their religious services, while simultaneously working hard to support their families. In fact, after my grandfather witnessed his father's rejection from the tuition committee of a Jewish elementary school, which resulted in him going to public school, he promised himself that he would take action some day. Indeed, after becoming very successful in the nursing home industry, he made sure to assist any Jewish kid in regards to his school tuition, as much as he can.

I was born in Einstein hospital while my father was enrolled in the Albert Einstein medical school. When I was about two years old, we moved to Providence, Rhode Island, where my father did his residency at Brown University. He eventually became an associate Professor of dermatology at the Brown medical school. When I was nine years old, we made aliyah to Jerusalem, where my family resides until this very day.

I have two sisters and two brothers. My older sister, Daniella, is married with two kids. She graduated from Hebrew University law school just over a year ago. Her husband, Chaim, studies and teaches at Yeshivat Aish Hatorah in the Old City of Jerusalem. My younger brother, Shlomo, is graduating this year from Machon Lev (Jerusalem Institute of Technology) with a degree in medical engineering. He just started his own start up company named ITD. My younger sister is doing sherut leumi at Zichron Menachem, which is an orginazation that helps sick children with cancer. My youngest brother, Avi, had just started high school where I myself had attended named Nehora, located just outside Modein.

Word 2007

Here are just a few of my favorite editions of word 2007, albeit that I am not so familiar with the older versions...

1)that the clipboard saves anything that you have copied, which is great if you want to paste something even though you have cut and pasted other parts in the mean time.

2)that you can sort the text by alphabetical order by using the "sort text" function.

3)the "find and replace function" is extremely efficient when I want to turn abbreviations in to the complete word, or to correct a name or place, that I had spelled incorrectly.

4)the table function under the insert tab is useful in conveying data and statistics in an organized manner.

5)the "clip art" function is a great tool to insert pictures to bring the article to life.

6)the "columns" function is great if you want to change around the appearance of the text to make is easier to read and understand. The "breaks" function goes hand in hand with it giving you complete control over which parts of the text you wish to change.

7)the "page border" function gives you many ways to frame the document, giving it a more official look and importance to the content.

8)the table of contents and the "update table" function is a great way to organize the topics in quick way for large documents, enabling the reader to get a quick overview and as a manual search tool.

9)the mailing address function is a great way to save time and money instead of ordering custom made envelopes, and it looks more professional that simply writing the recipients adress by hand.

10)the translation tool is very helpful when receiving or sending a letter, which replaces the other option of breaking your teeth (or hands) typing in a language that you are not familiar with.
